Why We Ride

Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center is a special place. PositiveProject.us founder and team captain, Leah, was treated for Acute Myeloid Leukemia there in 2016 and through that journey the Positive Project came to be. Every year, Roswell Park hosts the Ride for Roswell, a bike riding event in Buffalo, NY that supports the fight against cancer. Riders can choose their route and their distance, all while raising money for Roswell Park and celebrating the day that brings together survivors, warriors, family, friends and supporters!

Donate $10, We’ll Send a Card to a Patient

Have you heard about our handwritten card mission? For 24 hours on August 1st, we’ll be writing beautiful, encouraging, happy cards and mailing them to patients at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. With visitation policies all out of whack because of COVID, we want to send a message, loud and clear, to the people going through treatment at Roswell that we’re riding for them and that way-more-people-than-they-think are rooting for them.

On August 1st, choose a team member to donate to. You’ll be directed to the Ride for Roswell website to make your donation. Our team is notified of every new donation, and we’ll be posting pictures of the cards we send on the website and on social media.

Updates

August 26th, 2020 – The Positive Project team is getting ready for a socially distant team ride on Saturday, August 29th!

August 18th, 2020 – The Cards for Patients cards have all arrived at Roswell Park where they’re currently being quarantined to eliminate any risk of COVID-19 for the patients. Many thanks to the folks at Roswell for helping make this happen!

August 2nd, 2020 – We officially raised over $1140 for the Ride for Roswell with our one-day Cards for Patients initiative, which means we’ll be writing 114 handwritten cards and sending them off to cancer patients at Roswell Park.

July 15th, 2020 – We’re picking a date in August to do a team ride! Some will join virtually, and some will ride in-person from Emerson Park in Auburn, NY. Time to kick our fundraising efforts into high gear!

June 27th, 2020 – The team did our own “Ride for Roswell” virtually on the day of the original ride. Team members from across the state hopped on their bikes to get in some miles and celebrate the day. The “Summer of the Ride” kicks off in August, but we’ll be fundraising throughout July too!

June 17th, 2020 – Getting closer to the original ride date of June 27th! We’re gearing up for a training ride that day to celebrate, but we still have all summer long to fundraise!

April 6th, 2020 – Roswell announced that a final decision would be made by May 1st as to whether the ride would take place as-is or in some other form (vitual, etc.). During the month of April, all ride donations will go to the COVD-19 fund, which directly supports Roswell’s staff and patients.

March 18th, 2020 – Roswell announced the cancellation of all planned events related to the ride until May 1st. As of right now, the Ride is still scheduled to go on!
